On Tuesday, October 10th, National Sealing Company of Davie, Florida will begin dyeing and sealing the concrete pavers in medians throughout Salina. Concrete pavers have been installed in medians in Salina since the late 1990's. In contrast with the clay bricks that were once used to pave streets and still exist in some areas of Salina, concrete pavers derive their red/brown color from dyes added to the concrete. Those dyes have faded with time, and to meet this need National Sealing Company developed a unique dyeing process to restore faded pavers to near new condition. Median pavers to be sealed include those on: Broadway from Ninth north to Republic; Ninth from Riffel north to Broadway; Ninth from Thomas Park north to I-70; and Magnolia from Huntington east to the soccer complex. The lane next to the work will likely be closed to traffic. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the work altogether and find other routes to their destinations. Weather permitting the work will last from one to two weeks. The $102,000 project is part of the City of Salina's $4.7 million 2023 street maintenance capital improvement program.
